Gay Faulkenberry
Provence / Cote d'Azur
June 2-12, 2009
Workshop is limited to only 8 participants.
Gay Faulkenberry was born in Stillwater, Oklahoma and raised throughout the West. Gay grew up in an artistic family and was encouraged from an early age to pursue her art. She studied art at both Southwestern State and Oklahoma State Universities in Oklahoma. However, it was not until a trip to Taos, New Mexico in 1978 that Gay took a more serious direction to pursue a fine art career. Her in-depth training with noted Russian-born artist Sergei Bongart gave Gay a solid foundation in representational painting. In addition, she has studied with Ray Vinella, Ned Jacob and Mark Daily. Since that time, she has attained national recognition with her work and exhibits throughout the country.
Painting professionally for the past twenty-four years, her subject matter is well rounded and includes still life, floral, landscapes and interiors. Her work is found in many private and corporate collections and has been featured in numerous publications. From the school of impressionism/realism, Gay has attracted a growing audience of collectors as well as receiving numerous awards of excellence, the most prestigious being the Best Landscape Award at the Oil Painters of America show in Chicago.
Gay is a Master Signature member of the "American Women Artists" and is the current president of the nationally known "Plein Air Painters of America". She is a highly sought after instructor and teaches workshops throughout the United States and Europe.

Workshop Description
Spend ten days painting, living and relaxing in two beautiful and very different regions of southern France. Artist Gay Faulkenberry will be teaching with a focus on successfully dealing with all aspects of painting on location. She will address understanding how light affects the subject, composition, simplifying what is seen, color mixture, and the importance of value and temperature changes. Most importantly, she will concentrate on teaching how to create a painting that shows what you, the artist, wants to say about the subject - passion is everything! Gay will work with each student individually and direct them towards developing their own personal statement of what they see.
Beginning in Cassis, a small fishing village east of Marseille, Gay will teach for two days, followed by two mentoring days. Mentoring days are special days in which the participant will be able to observe Gay at work as an artist interacting with her environment. On these days, the participant can paint on location with Gay or at another location of their choosing. Mentoring days will include an early evening critique to review the day's work. Cassis is a quaint, but lively fishing village. There is much to see and paint.
Then, on Sunday morning, June 7, we will depart via private motor coach for our location in the Mont Ventoux region of Provence. Along the way, we will stop for a few hours of shopping at the world famous brocante market in Isle-sur-la-Sorgue. shop and relax for lunch and then continue to our accommodation for five nights in Provence. Here, Gay will teach for another two days, followed by two mentoring days. Our accommodation is close to a number of Provence's most beautiful villages. To name just a few, Vaison-la-Romain, Seguret, Grignan...the list just goes on! Here, painting possibilities are endless...countrysides full of vineyards and lavender, old castles, lively markets, streets strewn with flower boxes. There will be so much to discover and enjoy!
